The CEO of the Jeep and Ram manufacturer recommended to regulators to focus on building the infrastructure to sustain EVs while the automakers handled the research and creation of the vehicles. This is sound advice, right now we cannot support a full switch to electric engines, but I do find it interesting that they talk about the risks of electrification, how it would lead to job losses, or the need to restructure if they want to meet the goals set out for automakers. Because at the end of the day when it comes to these goals, we really don’t have time to waste to meet them. And yes, it’s not without risk and possible short-term consequences, but long-term it would benefit companies and consumers to go full throttle on this. It’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility to do more, so I don’t think it’s crazy to say that automakers should match the pace that regulators are setting and that regulators should also be going full throttle on this.
