Position Overview

Avolta is seeking a part-time Software Engineering Contractor with a strong emphasis on mobile application development to contribute directly to the development of production-grade automotive security systems.

This is a paid contract position (10–20 hours per week) intended for capable engineers who can independently deliver high-quality mobile and cross-platform solutions while collaborating with a focused product and engineering team. This position is impact-driven: contractors are expected to contribute meaningful technical output from the outset.

You will work on user-facing mobile applications that interface with vehicle security systems, cloud infrastructure, and intelligent detection components. The role includes designing secure, responsive, and scalable mobile experiences that support real-time monitoring, alerts, system control, and data visualization.

Compensation (Greater Toronto Area market-aligned):
CAD $50–$60 per hour, depending on experience, mobile architecture depth, and demonstrated execution capability.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop secure, production-ready mobile applications (iOS, Android, or cross-platform).

  • Build and maintain mobile interfaces for automotive anti-theft and vehicle security systems.

  • Integrate mobile apps with backend APIs, cloud infrastructure, and embedded vehicle systems.

  • Implement real-time notifications, alert systems, and remote-control functionalities.

  • Ensure strong mobile security practices (secure authentication, encrypted communication, secure storage).

  • Contribute to architectural decisions regarding mobile scalability and maintainability.

  • Write clean, well-documented, and testable code.

  • Participate in sprint planning, technical discussions, and product refinement sessions.

  • Support deployment, app store release processes, and performance optimization.

  • Uphold high standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and engineering integrity.


Required Qualifications

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • 2+ years of hands-on mobile application development experience.

  • Proficiency in one or more of:

    • Swift / SwiftUI (iOS)

    • Kotlin / Android SDK

    • React Native

    • Flutter

  • Experience integrating RESTful APIs and cloud services into mobile applications.

  • Strong understanding of mobile architecture patterns (MVVM, MVC, Clean Architecture, etc.).

  • Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows.

  • Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals.

  • Strong problem-solving ability and capacity to work with evolving product requirements.

  • Ability to operate independently in a contractor capacity.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline.

  • Experience building apps that interface with IoT or embedded systems.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).

  • Experience implementing secure authentication (OAuth, JWT, biometric auth).

  • Knowledge of encryption, cybersecurity principles, or secure communications.

  • Experience publishing apps to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

  • Interest or experience in automotive systems, telematics, or physical security technologies.
